UNDP Nigeria Request for National Consultants

UNV's mandate is to promote volunteerism for development, with special attention to youth participation seen as agents for constructive change. UNV has a proven track record in promoting sustainable development through promoting community advancement, protecting the environment, fighting poverty, caring for people with HIV/AIDS, etc. As at the year 2004, 7,772 United Nations Volunteers from 163 nationalities (comprised 60% of International Volunteers and 40% of National Volunteer(s) were serving in 139 countries worldwide.

In Nigeria, UNV became manifested in 1991 with the fielding of UNV volunteers in the health sector. The placement of 30 Cuban doctors in nine states in the northern region of the country maintained up to mid nineteen-nineties helped to introduce the concept of volunteerism in Nigeria.

In order to intensify collaboration with Volunteer Involving Organizations and increase impact of volunteerism on development of the country, the UNV Programme in Nigeria has suggested a study on Nigerian volunteering NGOs and initiatives which focus their activities on civic engagement, advocacy for volunteerism and community mobilization for national development.

Interested private inidividual consultants with relevant expertise in volunteerism, conducting surveys, data analysis and development studies are requested to apply on line based on the Terms of Reference (TOR) on UNDP website: http://www.ng.undp.org/ on or before 10 November 2009.

Any award resulting to this request will be subject to UNDP General Terms and Conditions for commercial services.
