Unicef Jobs in Nigeria

Unicef recently announced job vacancies for its Abuja office in Nigeria. UNICEF, the UN agency focusing on children and child rights has openings for Admin Assistant and Finance Officer amongst other positions. JobsNigeriaPlus notes that the recruitment exercise is obviously geared at improving UNICEF effectiveness and impact in Nigeria. It may be a UN agency but to make a difference it needs qualified people who can deliver in critical work and operational areas.

Post Title: Administrative Assistant, GS 5
Vacancy Number: VN- NGR-32-2012
Contract Type: Fixed Term
Duration: Two years

JobsNigeriaPlus notes that it appears to be an office/ admin job. The chosen Administrative Assistant will be supervised by the Chief, Water Sanitation and Hygiene in providing support in all administrative duties relating to the Programme Section and also provides the necessary support to the implementation/achievement of Programme activities and goals.

Minimum qualification & competencies:
Completion of secondary education.Ability to operate keyboard equipment.Such as a word-processor.
Five years progressively responsible work in clerical and allied areas, and should have good knowledge of office practices and processes.
Very good knowledge of English.Knowledge of one or other UN working languages.An asset.
Computer literacy with database management skills.
Ability to extract and format data, keep records and process information quickly and accurately.
Good communication skills
Drive for result and ability to work well with people particularly in a multicultural setting

POST Title: Finance Officer, NOB.

Contract Type: Fixed Term
Duration: Two years
Location: Abuja

JobsNigeriaPlus notes that this job is for an experienced finance/accounting person who will be supervised by the Finance Specialist in the UNICEF Nigeria office. The candidate will supervise the finance and accounts functions including the area of finance and  accounting, control, recording, reporting of assets, liabilities and income. Monitors the appropriate disbursement of funds and payments of accounts in accordance with rules, regulations and established budgetary limits.

Minimum qualification & competencies:
First University Degree of its equivalent in Accountancy, Finance or related fields. Advanced University degree in appropriate field or professional accounting qualification (e.g. ICAN), an asset.
Knowledge of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) is desirable.
Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in Finance and Accounts at managerial level in a recognized institutions; experience in electronic data processing and sound knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles is required. Practical experience in SAP is highly desirable.

Fluency in  written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of another UN working language and local working language of the duty station an asset.
Good knowledge of computer application, Knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing and other presentation software required.
Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and harmoniously in an international and multicultural environment.
